2022

The History Center in Tompkins County receives Best of Ithaca: 'Keeper of Local Knowledge' Award through multiple nominations by readers of the Ithaca Times.
History Center intern Claire Deng (Cornell 2022) received Cornell's 'Campus-Community Leadership Award' for her research project on Early Asian Residents in Tompkins County in collaboration with the Ithaca Asian American Association. Her research resulted in The Asai Family exhibit on display in Town Hall 2021-2022, the Tang Family tower in the reCOUNT exhibit, and new archival collections on early Asian residents and businesses in Tompkins County.
Ithaca’s LGBTQ History Walking Tour awarded the Allan Bérubé Prize from the American Historical Association. The tour was spearheaded by undergraduate students at Ithaca College in 2018-2019, and coordinated by Luca Maurer, Director of the LGBT Center for Education at Ithaca College. Community partners included: The History Center in Tompkins County, Historic Ithaca, Ithaca Heritage, Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes (Out for Health Program), and Visit Ithaca.

2021

Bob Kibbee, Dave Furber, and The History Center receive 2021 Awards of Merit in Historic Preservation from Historic Ithaca for the creation and implementation of the HistoryForge platform in the City of Ithaca and pilot programs in Oberlin, Auburn, and Elmira.
Giving is Gorges 2021 - The History Center received: Rise & Shine Power Hour, Most Unique Donors (Large Organization) prizes during Giving is Gorges virtual fundraising event on June 24th 2021.
Ben Sandberg - Director of The History Center in Tompkins County receives Fab5 Young Professional "Rookie of the Year" award.

Tompkins Center for History & Culture receives 2020 Preservation Award from Historic Ithaca
Martha K. Preston receives James J. Byrnes Awards for Excellence from Tompkins Trust Company for her volunteer work with The History Center in Tompkins County
Giving is Gorges 2020 - The History Center received: First Donor, Final Stretch, and Greatest Leap prizes during Giving is Gorges virtual fundraising event on May 20th 2020.

2019

Tompkins Center for History & Culture receives the "Downtown Ithaca Nonprofit of the Year" award from the Downtown Ithaca Alliance.
The History Center in Tompkins County, Historic Ithaca, and Lifelong all are awarded funds from the dissolution of the Hinckley Museum Foundation.

2018

Celebrating History Awards Gala - Awardee recipients: Ithaca Aviation Heritage Foundation, Louise Bement (Town of Lansing Historian) received 'Local History Expert Guide and Chief Researcher Award', Diana Riesman (Wharton Studio Museum), Dr. Sean Eversley Bradwell, and Stuart W. Stein.

2017

Celebrating History Awards Gala - Awardee recipients: Carol Kammen - Lifetime Achievement Award (Tompkins County Historian), Cayuga Heights History Project - Beatrice Szekely, Pat Longoria, Carole Schiffman, and Randi Kepecs; Bob Baxter (Great Possibilities - Verne Morton), Tompkins County League of Women Voters - Making a Difference Award, Eli Zhang & Francesca Chu received Youth Awards.

2012

The Sustainable Tompkins Board of Directors recognizes The History Center in Tompkins County - Haudenosaunee Environmental Education Presentation for offering the community a Sign of Sustainability.

Tompkins County Distinguished Youth Award presented to Student Historian Initiative in recognition of outstanding commitment to the community.

2003

Key Member of the Year - presented to the DeWitt Historical Society/Tompkins County Museum as a member of the Discovery Trail.

National Education Association of New York recognizes the DeWitt Historical Society of Tompkins County New York for their work at the Eight Square Schoolhouse - Preserving Public Education's History, Celebrating Our Present, Shaping our Future
Executive Chamber Citation from the State of New York Governor's office in recognition of the Eight Square Schoolhouse's 175th anniversary

2001

Award of Merit presented to the DeWitt Historical Society of Tompkins County in recognition of important efforts to preserve and present upstate history through the Towns of Tompkins County Exhibit Project - Upstate History Alliance
Tompkins Trust Company Award for Excellence presented to Henry Cowan for his considerable contributions to the lives of many people, and his work with organizations like the DeWitt Historical Society, Literacy Volunteers of Tompkins County, Kiwanis and RSVP. Presented by the Tompkins County Foundation.

2000

The Eight Square Schoolhouse in Dryden, NY designated as an Official Project of Save America's Treasures by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

1998

Peggy Hubbell receives the first "Keeper of the Past" award from the DeWitt Historical Society for her work in preserving Enfield's cemeteries.

1990

The DeWitt Historical Society of Tompkins County is the recipient of the 1990 New York State Governor's Arts Award. Established in 1966 the New York State Governor's Arts Awards recognizes significant contributions to artistic life in the State of New York. These awards are administered by the New York State Council on the Arts.

1984

1971

William Heidt, local historian and DeWitt Historical Society curator receives Ithaca Journal "Man of the Year" award. Heidt was a typesetter at the Ithaca Journal for 25 years before retiring in 1954, and became a volunteer curator at the DeWitt Historical society. Through a print shop set up in the DHS basement he printed nearly 40 pamphlets on local history.

1970

William Heidt, curator at the DeWitt Historical Society, receives one of six national citations of "unusual meritorious work and leadership on behalf of local history" from the American Association for State and Local History.
