At the 2010
Downtown Ithaca Chili Cookoff

Inspired by the popular walking ‘ghost tours’ which take place in Great Britain in nearly every town, village and city, the History Center in Tompkins County has developed its own unique historical walking tour. Taking the form of a leisurely guided walk spanning approximately 60 minutes, tour-goers will encounter tales touching upon many important events in the city’s history such as the Iroquois Settlement along Cayuga Lake, Cornell University history, silent movie stars, as well as tales from the ‘bad old days’ of fun and excitement in Ithaca’s West End in the days of the Erie Canal and later. Tour-goers will encounter reenactments and vignettes along the way performed by actors from the History Center’s Living History Troupe.

Learning about Ithaca’s diverse architectural history and innovative spirit was never so much fun!
