The History Center presents:
Focus on Quilting

I. Piecing Together History, an on-going quilt exhibit

Piecing Together History is a collaborative preservation project between The History Center and the Tompkins County Quilter’s Guild. Members from the guild are unpacking each of THC 80+ quilts, documenting the object’s history, noting any conservation issues, photographing, and then refolding and packing the quilts into archival storage boxes. The project will culminate in the winter of 2009 with an exhibit of THC’s finest quilts.

II. Calling all Quilt Lovers! Save the Date!

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008
12-4pm
At The History Center in Tompkins County

Schedule of Events:

  • 12-4pm: Quilting expert and author Patty Elwin Davis will be signing copies of her book, Twice Told Tales, History, Literature, and Family Lore Retold in Narrative Quilts. Copies of the book will be available for purchase during the signing.

  • 12-2pm: The Ithaca Quilter’s Guild will offer a quilting demonstration and will be highlighting examples from The History Center’s quilt collection. Guild Members will also offer their expertise on the possible history and style of your quilts. Bring in your clean quilt and they will apply the same process to it that they are applying to our collection.

  • 3:30pm: We will conclude the event by drawing the winning raffle ticket from the Ithaca Quilters Guild Quilt Raffle (quilt pictured above) to benefit The History Center’s 8 Square Schoolhouse. Tickets will be available for purchase during the event.
