Volunteer at The History Center

Being a volunteer means active involvement with the Museum and its staff in a close-knit, friendly atmosphere. Opportunities to volunteer are available in all areas: collections, research, administration, museum store, marketing, education and with our Eight Square Schoolhouse Living History Program. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please call the museum at 607-273-8284.

Interested in History or Museums? Love to work with children? Prefer not to work with children but love to work with computers? We have internships to fit every interest. Join us and volunteer in a fun, flexible environment where caring for the past meets planning for the future. Summer Internships are offered on a space-available basis and are designed for youth ages 12 -18. A weekly commitment of at least three hours is encouraged but not required. For more information contact the Education Department.

Donating Artifacts to The History Center

Many individuals, businesses, and community groups have an interest in donating their artifacts, records or photographs to The History Center. We will be delighted to consider adding your donation to our collections based upon our acquisition criteria. DHS actively seeks new donations during two time periods every year, lasting approximately one month each in the spring and fall. At other times throughout the year, we require you to complete the proper questionnaire depending on the nature of your donation, so that we may easily track items for future, scheduled evaluation. You may pick up these forms at the front desk of the museum, or print them out here:

Donor Questionnaire for Objects
3-D items, clothing, quilts, buttons, tools, dolls, etc.

Donor Questionnaire for Archival Materials
photographs, papers, maps, diaries, etc.
