Curriculum Based Programs

Let us do the teaching! Designed with New York State Social Studies Learning Standards and Common Core Curriculum in mind, our offerings include Journey to the Past: In My Community, Geography and Early Settlement in Tompkins County. and Haudenosaunee Beadwork: Native and European Contact in New York State. All three foster an appreciation of local history through an understanding of history as past, present and future.

Journey to the Past: In My Community

Through examination of photographs from The History Center’s collection, the students will discover that Urban, Suburban, and Rural communities share the same basic traits, even when comparing our Ithaca community of today with that of over 100 years ago!   ($75/hour for up to 20 students)

Geography and Early Settlement in Tompkins County

Through examination of maps, paintings, and photographs from The History Center’s collections, the students will discover that all 3 reveal answers to questions about why people choose to live in a given area, how they use the land, and how both of these change over time.   ($75/hour for up to 20 students)

Haudenosaunee Beadwork: Native and European Contact in New York State

Through presentation and examination of 100 year old Iroquois beadwork, students will learn how Native tribes of New York State and Europeans had contact with one another through the tourist trade of the mid 19th through early 20th centuries, and how this is continuing into the 21st century.   ($75/hour for up to 20 students)
