Description

Ithaca Area Bookstores - Two Hundred Years of Bookstore History in Tompkins County 1819-2019 by Sharon K. Yntema, published 2023 (Excerpts from the Introduction) "In the very early days of Tompkins County, there were general stores that sold books in one corner of the store but carried all the other kinds of goods new settlers in an area might need as well-food, clothing, raw materials, whiskey etc. ... In my research I found reference to ninety-six stores that sold books in Tompkins County in the 200-year period between 1819 and 2019. The future of bookstores in Ithaca and Tompkins County is unknwon in the long range, but for now, Ithaca continues to live up to the phrase coined by Buffalo Street Books: ITHACA IS BOOKS!
