THE MUSEUM BOOKSHOP
Books can be purchased in-person at our Exhibit Hall on the first floor of the Tompkins Center for History & Culture or ordered below. We encourage those interested in local history titles to check our local bookstores: Autumn Leaves Used Books, Buffalo Street Books, Cornell Press, and Odyssey Bookstore.
**Educators interested in acquiring discounted or free copies for their schools or learning spaces are encouraged to reach out to us.**
Many local history books not available for purchase can be read in our Research Library.
The Tompkins County Public Library has also digitized many books from their local history collection which can be read on their website (no membership needed).
For many decades the DeWitt Historical Society (now The History Center in Tompkins County) helped authors and researchers publish more than 80 books on local history. Since 2019 we have moved away from publishing books as our public programming and education offerings have grown in our new location at the Tompkins Center for History & Culture. We are happy to support local history authors with research needs, public programming, and promotion of their finished books.
