TOMPKINS COUNTY HISTORICAL COMMISSION

"Nine towns and a City"

The Tompkins County Historical Commission was established in 2019 by the Tompkins County Legislature in collaboration with former Tompkins County Historian Carol Kammen. The Commission includes members from all six historical societies in Tompkins County: Dryden, Lansing, Caroline, Ulysses and local history focused organizations such as Historic Ithaca and The History Center in Tompkins County

The Commission was founded to serve as a unifying committee to promote local history across the county. One of their earliest projects included the 'Recognizing Tompkins County's Suffrage Pioneers' Commemorative Marker Project'. From 2020-Present they have funded more than six publications written by local historians highlighting underknown Tompkins County histories. These booklets are distributed freely among the historical societies of the county, and sold through The History Center's online bookstore
