BOOK YOUR VISIT!
We understand that visiting public spaces during COVID-19 has presented a new set of challenges and considerations, and we at The History Center and all the organizations at the Tompkins Center for History & Culture want to ensure that your visit is as safe and secure as possible. To that end we have instituted new safety, sanitation, and security measures throughout the building.
Health & Safety Protocols
We are all very excited to welcome you back to the museum, and these measures have been instituted for the safety of the public, and the staff and volunteers of The History Center in Tompkins County.
If you have any reflections or suggestions on how we could improve our practices for your comfort please contact Ben Sandberg at director@thehistorycenter.net.
----------------------------------------------------------------
All visits will be 45 minutes in length beginning at the start of each hour, allowing History Center staff 15 minutes between visiting groups to sanitize the Exhibit Hall.
You can book up to 10 people per visit which is less than 10% of our building capacity (far below state recommended guidelines). All visitors must wear masks at all times within the Tompkins Center for History & Culture building. Masks and hand sanitizer will be provided to all visitors entering the building.
Visitors will be permitted in the Atrium and Exhibit Hall, but there is no public access to the second or third floor of the building, or the CAP ArtSpace (there are currently no displays in this room). Please contact archives@thehistorycenter.net regarding research requests and access to the Research Library.
Visits are still free! You can make as many visits in a week as you would like to give yourself plenty of time to explore all our exhibits. Our suggested admission price is $10 per adult, $4 per child. Your contribution is important for our continued ability to provide a safe public space within the community. No one will be prevented from visiting due to an inability to pay. Donations can be made in person at the time of your visit, when booking, or online through our Donation page.
No food or drink is permitted in the building by visitors at this time, we request any food or beverage items to be kept inside bags for the duration of your visit. The water fountain on the first floor has also been disabled.
Once your visit is scheduled you will receive an email confirming your time and how to get here. We ask all visitors to sign a Health Declaration Form at the start of their visit to ensure no one has recently experienced symptoms related to COVID-19. We will also require contact information for all visitors to assist Tompkins County Health Department contact tracers should it become important to communicate with you at a later date.
We are requesting that individuals visiting from out of New York State review the COVID-19 Travel Advisory List and refrain from visiting the museum until you have completed the state mandated 2-week quarantine if it is recommended to do so from your state, province, or country.
Please do not schedule a visit if you or any member of your group are awaiting results from a COVID-19 test due to potential exposure, or were recently in close contact with someone who tested positive for the virus.
