California Ho! By Sail Boat and Mule Train 1849 (adapted by William Heidt, Jr.) Published by Office of the County Historian in cooperation with DeWitt Historical Society of Tompkins County, Inc., 1972 This pamphlet tells the story of two trips to California in 1849, one overland from Ithaca and one by ship from New York City. as well as something of their after lives. The overland trip was made by fifty men from the Ithaca area and is reported by W. B. Taylor, a member of the trip. The ship voyage is described by James F. Caine who died a few months after completing the voyage.
