From the notes in the original edition, “Eighty-seven years ago Carrie L. Manning kept a diary for the year 1869. Although she never heard the word “teenager”, she was one and living on the farm in the town of Ithaca. She was 13 years old and a pupil of the district school.” By W.H.Jr, March 22, 1956
