"We Broke the Ice" Story-Telling

  • The CAP Gallery at the Center for History and Culture in Tompkins County

The History Center in Tompkins County will be open 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29nd in honor of the We Broke the Ice display about the history of local girls and women's ice hockey.

Two local business women who are mother and daughter, and who have played a great deal of ice hockey in this community, will tell their stories at 4:00 pm in the CAP Gallery.

When Tompkins Girls Hockey Association and Cornell University Women's Hockey started in 1972, Susan Cosentini was in high school. She began playing with TGHA and the Ithaca Shooting Stars before becoming a Cornell student and varsity hockey player. Fast forward to the 1990s when her daughter Jamie Jensen began skating with TGHA and the Shooting Stars, and her mom "Coz" helped coach. Like her mom, Jamie was an "ice-breaker" as she was one of the first Ithaca High School Girls Varsity players.

Check out this program and the TGHA's contribution to the "Sporting Chance" exhibit at the History Center.
