The Cornell Local History Research Library and Thaler/Howell Archives are located on the first floor of the Tompkins Center for History & Culture. Our collections contain nearly 100,000 photographs, over 1000 linear feet of archives, genealogy files for over 2,000 Tompkins County families, and 3,000 books relating to the history of Tompkins County. |
The Cornell Local History Research Library, named in honor of Ezra Cornell, is open to the public by appointment each week. The History Center’s research library serves casual browsers, scholars, school children, local historians, genealogists, and professional researchers.
An in-person visit offers you the most professional assistance and archival access. However, if you cannot come to the library, some services can be accessed from a distance. Contact archives@thehistorycenter.net with questions.
Our manuscript collections include finding aids, which are detailed box lists that describe the contents of each collection. They are critical introductions to the collections, and some of the many finding aids in The History Center's archives can be seen and downloaded below.
